Description
Silver coin minted by Ahmad El-Musta'in II, king of the Taifa of Zaragoza between 1085 and 1110. His dirhams are characterized by the absence of allusions to the imam. Compared with the rough-looking and faulty manufacture of most issues in the Taifa period, Ahmad II's coins stand out for the beauty of their designs, perhaps in relation to this monarch's facet as a patron of culture and art. A sample of this decorative quality can be seen in the ornamental details and the careful calligraphy of this coin.
