Description
Polished lynx tusks, used as a personal ornament. The orifice, always located at the root of the tooth, was made with the help of a flint perforator. The Caves of the Reclau de Serinyà have provided a significant number of Upper Palaeolithic adornments. In addition to the lynx tusks, pendants made with fox and deer teeth have also been documented. Most common were ornaments made of sea shells (conical shells, periwinkles, ...). Particularly noteworthy is the find of more than 2,500 specimens - most of them perforated - of Homalopoma sanguineum, a small gastropod that lives in the Mediterranean and is characterized, as its scientific name indicates, by an intense reddish colour.
