A portrait of the Emperor Lucius Verus (161-169), co-regent with Marcus
Aurelius, found in the area of the Forum of the Colonia in Tarraco.
This was the official image of the emperor distributed throughout the
Empire. It was probably carved in a local workshop based on a prototype created
in Rome by an official sculptor. Although it contains unmistakeable features of
the Emperor, the face also corresponds to the ideal stereotype of handsomeness
of the time.
