Description
Attic alabaster of black figures, by the painter from Haimon. It comes from Empúries (L'Escala, Alt Empordà), dated in the 5th century BC, and represents Dionysian scenes. In the upper frieze there is Dionysus sitting, dressed in a himation and crowned, accompanied by satyrs dancing. In the free spaces there are amphorae and vessels, grapes and garlands of leaves that link the figures. In the lower frieze there is a seated maenad, with a snake in her hand. On each side there is a satyr and another dancing maenad, and in the background, garlands.
