Description
Statue of Bacchus, god of wine, inspired by Praxiteles' wine-pouring satyr. It would have been part of the sculptural decoration of a domus in the residential area of Tarraco. It was placed in a private context. It is one of the few sculptures preserved from this part of the city, all of which are characterised by a particularly elaborate manufacture. The theme represented by these statues is a common part of the ornamentation of Roman villas and urban houses.
