Description
Terracotta theatrical mask of a grotesque face with an oversized nose and a broad smile. It may be an example of those used in the Atellan farces, satirical-burlesque comedies that ridiculed specific situations and occupations. They originated in Atella, a small town between Capua and Naples and were normally performed after the tragedies by amateur actors.
