Description
It corresponds to the Gaulosie 4 typology, one of the flat-bottomed amphora models from Gaul. It has a brownish-beige fabric, a conical body, a short and narrow neck, and semicircular handles with a flat cross-section and grooves. Few examples of this type of amphora can be found in the Roman city of Baetulo. They arrived, especially at the end of the 1st and 2nd century AD, thanks to coastal shipping, that is, on small ships that brought various products from cities in the south of France such as Narbonne, Marseille, etc. It is a clear example of this type of transport and of the arrival of Gallic wine, when the wine from Tarragona in the Dressel 2-4 typology began to lose market.
