At the bottom of this amphora, glued to the resin that covers its interior to make it waterproof, the spines of the fish it contained, which are of mackerel, were kept attached. So we know that this amphora contained salted mackerel.
Remains of olives have been found in the contents of the amphora, which indicate that they were mixed with the fish to season it.
