Aureus from the period of Augustus. It is a coin dated between 2 BC and 14 AD to celebrate the designation of Gaius and Lucius as his grandchildren (sons of Julia and Marcus Agrippa). Caesars Gaius and Lucius standing, in robes, with shields and spears between them. At the top of the field is a simpulum (small cup) and a lituus (walking stick used by augurs).
