Iron umbo, part of a shield, which appeared at House 2 at Mas Castellar (Pontós, Alt Empordà) and dated to 225-175 BC. The umbo is 26 cm long and 9.2 cm wide and is shaped like butterfly wings. The shield this boss belongs to was probably made of perishable materials, leather or wood, since usually only the metal parts of this type of shield are preserved. The presence of these types of pieces is a proof of how episodes of violence and war have been a constant in the history of humanity.
